The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA) is one of the most prestigious conservatories in the country. It’s a great place to study and get your start as an actor or director, but it’s also a very competitive environment. Many other schools will accept your application if you apply to AADA and don’t get accepted. However, if you do get through admissions–and even if you don’t–the school is still worth it!
The application process is pretty simple, but some things to consider are:
- Apply online. You can submit your application through the website or send it directly to the Academy’s admissions committee via snail mail.
- Submit a portfolio of work. For this step, you must submit three pieces of writing that show off your talent and skill as an actor (poetry, short stories). If you don’t have any published work yet, it would still be helpful for them to see samples of what you write before applying so that they know what kind of material they would be getting from their new student!
- Submit a letter of intent (LOI). This allows them to get an idea about whether or not someone will fit nicely into their class structure before making any commitments–it also helps reduce stress levels when deciding whether or not someone should attend AADA programs! Please note that this LOI does not apply towards interviews; however, if a student receives one positive response, they may receive another invitation if there aren’t enough seats available at those times.”
Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees are $2,950 per semester.
- Health insurance (a minimum of $500) is not included in tuition. It must be purchased separately from the school and can be expensive.
- Books and supplies (roughly $1,000-$1,500) are also required for classes at AADA and vary by subject area. In addition to buying books for yourself or your child(ren), you may have some expenses related to renting tutors or therapists who will help with learning disabilities or other disabilities that affect learning in school; these services often require additional time away from classes outside of class time so make sure you plan if this route is what works best for your family situation! You’ll need to budget accordingly as well.
Living expenses in LA are significantly higher than those in New York City. The cost of living in Los Angeles is between $6,000 and $8,000 per month. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is around $1,500 per month, and you will pay more if you want to live in a two-bedroom unit or more prominent.
San Francisco has the highest average rent ($2,500) among all major cities across America; however, there are still many affordable neighborhoods within this city where you can find housing at an affordable price range!
Chicago’s minimum wage has been raised from $8/hr to $10/hr since April 1, 2019, making it slightly more competitive with other major cities across America regarding paying bills like rent or mortgage payments each month.”
While on-campus housing is unavailable, you can find accommodation in the area. The school will help you find your next place to live and even give you a list of apartments and houses for rent in the area.
The American Academy of Dramatic Arts offers financial aid to help pay for your education. You must apply for financial assistance before April 1, 2019, but it’s different from applying for admission.
